How to receive salvation

Written by Robin Prijs.

God is still the same. He never changed. He still look at you with His eyes full of love and with His arms wide open. How can you reply to that love and become a Christian? While Jesus lived on this earth, He gave us the keys how to become a Christian. The remarkable thing is that Jesus lived a normal life on earth among normal people. Until the age of 30, He worked as a carpenter. He didn’t taught anyone and when He spoke with people, it was just about the normal things of the natural life. When He became 30, He stopped with His job and started with His ministry. After He got baptized by John the Baptist, He started to teach the people about the kingdom of God. The first advise He gave was:

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Matthew 4:17

So, after 30 years of silence, the first message He wanted to share with the world was that they needed to repent. That message is still the same this present day. Why do we need to repent? Because the kingdom of heave is at hand. That means that God wants to bring heaven to this earth. Yes, that also means that there will be a new heaven and a new earth later, but it’s also a promise for this moment in time. It means that God wants to live inside your heart to make it His home. But what does repentance mean?

Repentance means that we will have a change of heart and that we turn from our wicked ways. It also means giving up our independence and becoming depended on God. Now that can be a scary thing at first, but once you get to know Him better, it becomes easier with each step you take. You are at the beginning of a new way in your life. This is the cross point. You probably expect a list of things that you need to do at this point, but I can’t give you that. The reason is that the kingdom of God, being a Christian, is not about following a set of rules. It is about having a relationship with the God Who created you. That relationship starts with getting to know God and surrendering your life to Him. Starting a relationship with God means change. It means that God will be the Master of your life from that moment on and that He is going to change your life forever. He will guide you step by step to a holy life where you will be able to receive His love and eventually share His love with the people around you. From the moment you give your life to God, He will never leave your side. But again, it means change and it means that He will ask you to give up a lot of things in order to become holy. The gift of salvation is a gift you receive for free, but at the same time it will cost you all of your life.

Is that what you want? Do you want to receive Him, to receive His love into your life? Do you want to allow Him to change you? Do you want to become a child of God? If your answer to these questions is yes, then you’re ready to become a Christian. Your life can change right here, right now. If you want that, you can pray the example prayer below or use your own words. When you’re going to pray it is very important that you pray out loud. Ok, the neighbors don’t need to hear you, when you can hear yourself speak it is loud enough. At the moment you start to pray, the whole invisible spiritual world starts the listen to what you say. It is a statement that you’ll make in the spiritual world, where you say “no!” to the works of satan and surrender your life to Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Here’s the example prayer you can pray:

Dear Jesus Christ, at this moment I surrender my whole life to You. I acknowledge you as the Son of God and as the Lord and Master of my life, from this moment on. I confess that I am a sinner with the need of a Savior. I ask You, Lord Jesus, to be my Savior. I confess all my sins to You and I ask You to forgive all the sins I’ve ever committed, because You died at the cross for me and Your blood was shed for me.

If you want to confess your sins specifically, then you can do that now. Take all the time you need. When you’re ready, you can continue:

I choose to forgive all the people who’ve sinned against me. Dear Jesus Christ, I also want to ask you to reveal God to me as the loving and caring Father He is. I ask You to let me experience the Fathers embrace. Heal my pain and restore my life. I now accept the gift of Your grace, for by grace I am now saved. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Is that all? Well yes, you don’t need to pray a long prayer so that God can understand you’re serious. He already knows you’re serious because He knows your heart and He can see your true motivation.

Have you prayed the prayer? Wow! Congratulations and welcome in the family of God! From this moment, from this day, you are a Christian and a child of the living God Who loves you with an everlasting love. Welcome home.
